John H. Barnet
John H. Barnet, a former driver in the Easton Fire department, died at 9”25 o’clock this morning at his home, 23 North Thirteenth Street, after a lingering illness of a complication of ailments. He was seized with heart failure on Wednesday, which confined him to his bed and hastened his death. He was in the seventieth year of his age. The deceased was a native of Easton and lived here all his life. When the paid fire department was organized on November 1, 1879, Mr. Barnet was elected to the position of driver and No. 2 steam fire engine, and served for 24 consecutive years. Mr. Barnet was a member of the old Washington Fire company, of the volunteer service, until it was legislated out of duty by the installing of the paid department. He was known as one of the best drivers in the department, and was hardworking and faithful in the performance of his duties. He is survived by five children P Miss Mary A. Barnet, John J. Barnet, Mrs. Joseph Howell, Mrs. Hoard Kleinhans and Mrs. Harry C. Drake, off of Easton, and by one brother, George W. Barnet, of Easton. The deceased was a member of the Star Council, No. 158, Royal Arcanum.
