Elizabeth M. Bartholomew, headed county Marine Unit
Elizabeth M. Bartholomew, 57, first woman commandant of the Northampton County Detachment of the Marine Corps League, Wilson, died Monday in University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. She lived at 3145 Linda Lane, Allentown. She formerly resided at 124 S. 15th St., Easton.
She was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Easton for several years, She retired in 1969. Prior to that, she was a machine operator at Magnetic Windings Co., Inc., Palmer Township.
Born May 5, 1925, in Bethlehem Township, she was a daughter of the late Adam and Miriam Beck Bartholomew.
Miss Bartholmew served with the U.S. MarineCorps during World War II and the Korean conflict. She was past president of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Women Marines Association; on the staff of the National Women Marines Association, and in 1971, was named the first woman commandant of the Northampton County Detachment of the Marine Corps League, Wilson. She also was active in the Marine Corps reserve "Toys for Tots" program.
Surviving are two aunts and an uncle.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton. Interment will be in Easton Heights Cemetery.
