Charles S. Bisbing, 87, of Reading, formerly of Easton, died
Wednesday in Wyomissing Lodge, Wyomissing, Berks County. He
was the husband of the late Ruth M. (Hess) Bisbing.
He was a hotel and club manager for 46 years. During that
time he managed the Abraham Lincoln Hotel, the Heidelberg Country
Club and the Reading Country Club, all in Reading, and the
Iris Club in Wyomissing. He was sales manager of the former
Hotel Berkshire, Reading.
Bisbing managed the Hotel Traylor during the 1950s, the former
Shrine Club and Livingston Club, all in Allentown.
In Florida, he was manager of the Anna Capri Motel and McCaffreys
Restaurant, Fort Lauderdale.
He also served numerous celebrities of his time, including
Calvin Coolidge, Huey Long, Jimmy Walker, toastmaster Jim Farley,
Bing Crosby, Charlie Chaplain, Ethel Merman, Amos and Andy,
Babe Ruth, Red Grange, Knute Rockne and Jack Dempsey.
Bisbing was a caterer for Col. Charles Lindberg at the family
home near Flemington, N.J.
Born in Easton, he was a son of the late Charles D. and Grace
H. (Garis) Bisbing.
He was a member of St. Catharine of Siena Catholic Church,
Mount Penn, Berks County.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
There are no immediate survivors.
Services: 9 a.m. Monday, Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St.,
Reading; Mass at 10 a.m. in the church. Call 9-9:30 a.m. Monday.
