Verna Lee Andrus, 88, of Topeka, Kansas, died Sunday evening, Oct. 28, 2007, at Lexington Park Assisted Care Home in Topeka, Kansas.

She was born April 10, 1919 in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of David Harrison and Eva Lima Sloyer Black.

She moved to Midian, Kansas as a small girl. She graduated from the Midian High School. She also attended El Dorado Junior College and Wichita Business College.

She taught school in a one room Welcome School for several years. She also was employed by Skelly Refinery and LaForges Office Supplies.

She moved to Topeka, KS, in 2002 to be near her daughter, due to declining health.

Verna was a very faithful member of the First United Methodist Church the UMW, the Piecemakers Quilt group. She was both a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader.

During WWII she was able to be with her husband while he served in the U.S. Navy.

Surviving family include one son ***** of Humble, TX; one daughter ***** of Topeka, KS; one grandson, Matt McClimans of Topeka, KS; two great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; and 2 step-great-grandchildren.

The Celebration of her life will be held at the First United Methodist Church in El Dorado, Kansas. Graveside services will follow in Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado, Kansas.

A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church of El Dorado.
