Isaac Coken
Isaac Coken, a well known resident of the South Side, died
at 3 o’clock this morning at his home, no. 306 St. Joseph
street, of a complication of ailments. He had been ailing for
some time, and had been seriously ill for the past four weeks.
He was 61 years of age on November 10 last. Deceased is survived
by two sons, Walter E. Coken, of Cleveland, O., and John E.
Coken, of the South Side; also by two brothers and a sister – Jacob
Coken of Williams Township; Samuel Coken of Joplin, Mo., and
Mrs. Joseph Vogel, of the South Side. He was a native of Williams
Township, a son of the late Jacob and Diana Coken. He was a
member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Williams Township.
For a number of years Mr. Coken was employed at Sampson’s
Ore mine, in Williams township. He had more recently been employed
at the Phillipsburg Ingersoll plant. He was a charter member
of the Independent Gun Club and belonged to the Ingersoll Relief
Association. He had quite a reputation as a gunner, having
made some most successful gunning trips.
