Grube, Wayne A.

Wayne A. Grube, 74, of Bethlehem, Pa, died on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at Hospice of VNA of St. Luke's in Lower Saucon Township, Pa.

Born: In Easton, Pa, he was a son of the late Walter and Emma Leh Grube.

Personal: He was the husband of Patricia S. Surike Grube and they celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary this past July.

He was a Northampton County Councilman, and the acting vice president for the past three years. He was also the legislative staff assistant to State Representative, Rich Grucela, from 2002 to present. Prior to that time, he held the presidency of the County Councilman for two terms. Wayne served his country as a Navy Corpsman, 3rd Class, during the Korean War.

He graduated from Easton High School and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education from East Stroudsburg State College. He entered the teaching profession as a social studies teacher, followed by being a driver training teacher, and assistant football and track coach. He was appointed assistant track coach in 1966, and appointed head track coach in 1967. He was then appointed head football coach in 1968, and resigned his position as head track coach at that time. In 1979, he became assistant football coach at Lehigh University and, in 1986, returned to high school as a social studies teacher and head football coach at Wilson Area High School. During that period of time, he received numerous special honors. In 1969, he was awarded head football coach of the Big 33 east squad. In 1979, he received the assistant football coach of the Big 33 east squad. Following, in 1975 to 1979, he was the head coach of the LARC City All Star Team. In 1978 and 1986, he was named the Express Times coach of the year. He also was inducted into the McDonald's All Star Game Hall of Fame in 1993, the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Hall of Fame in 1999, the Lehigh Valley National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 2003, and the Easton Area High Wall of Fame. In 1989, 1993, and 1997, he was the top vote getter in both the primary and general elections, and in 1991 to 1997, he was on the Northampton County Council. He was also the top vote getter in the primary, and second vote getter in the general election. He was the only democrat to win in the county council at-large race. He served the legal and judicial committee from 1991 to 1997, the personnel committee from 1990 to 1996, the human services committee from 1993 to 1997, the prison liaison pension board from 1998 to 2002, and the LVEDC from 1998 to 2002. He has been quite involved in the Nor-Bath Trail extension into Northampton, and brokered $500,000 from Swaption Funds for open space. He has been a constant watchdog of 2001 bond issue funds for the Bethlehem Commerce-Bethlehem Works projects, and involved in the 2001 bond issue for the Portland Industrial Park. He has made a very significant investment of the bond money for LVIP VI. Memberships: He was a member of Palmer Moravian Community Church.

Survivors: In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, ***** of Easton, ***** of Allentown, Pa, and ***** of Springfield, Ohio; his three grandchildren, a sister, ***** of Phillipsburg, NJ; brothers, Walter "Bud" Grube, and Maynard Grube; sisters-in-law, Caroline Hudock and her husband, Steve, and Louise Nederostek, and a brother-in-law, Raymond and Paul Majczan. His sisters, Arrannetta Young, Beatrice Lennox, and Pauline Grube, all died earlier.

Services: Services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Palmer Moravian Community Church, 2901 John Street, Palmer Township, PA 18045. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Avenue, Northampton, PA 18067, and also, on Monday, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the church. Burial with Military Honors will be at Northampton Memorial Shrine, Easton, immediately following the church service. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.schislerfuneralhomes.com.
