Long Connected with Wholesale Grocers

David J. Sandt, 57 years old, vice president and general manager of Davies Strauss Stauffer Company, wholesale grocers, 230 Ferry street died this morning at 8:30 at his home, 18 North fourteenth Street. Mr. Sandt has been in poor health for several weeks but went to his office mornings and worked for several hours. He was at the office on Monday morning. A sudden heart attack caused his death this morning.

He was born at Stocker town on February 16, 1885, a son of the late John V. D. and Laura A. Sandt. The family later moved to Easton and lived at 1229 Washington Street.

Mr. Sandt was graduated from Easton High School in 1904 and immediately entered the employ of the H. G. Tombler Grocery Company which later became the Davies Struase Stauffer Company. He rose by faithful and efficient work through different positions I n the firm until he was finally made vice-president and general manager. His father, the late John V. D. Sandt was for many years a salesman for the H.G. Tombler Grocery Company.

He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and the following Masonic bodies, Easton Lodge No. 152, Free and Accepted Masons of which he was a Past Worshipful Master; Easton Chapter, No. 173 Royal Arch Mason, Pomp Council, No. 20, Royal and Select Master Mason; Hugh dePayens Commandery, No. 19, Knights Templar: Rajah Temple, Reading, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Lehigh Consistory, Scottish Rite Masonry, Allentown; Easton Forest, No.25, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, this city.

He was a past grand warder of the Grand Commandersy of Pennsylvania Knight Templar.

Mr. Sandt is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fannie Lutz Sandt. He was the last surviving member of his family.
