Theodore Schug
After a long and painful illness, Theodore Schug, one of the
best known citizens of Easton, died this (Thursday) morning
at his residence on College hill. At the time of his death,
Mr. Schug was the secretary of the board of control, to which
position he was elected in June, 1882, and re-elected this
year. He was for many years the secretary of Lehicton Lodge,
No. 244. I.O. O. F.; was a member of Valley Union encampment,
I.O.O. F, and of Lafayette post, G.A. R. During a part of the
war he was a member of the 153rd Pennsylvania regiment. He
was taken prisoner at Gettysburg. While at Spottsylvania, Mr.
Schug was taken with rheumatism. Afterward he had the dropsy
and last of all the consumption, which was the cause of his
death. Mr. Schug had been laid up several months. During his
illness his position as secretary o the board of control was
temporarily filled by Mr. W. W. Cottingham. Mr. Schug filled
several ward offices during his residence here and had the
highest respect of a large circle of friends. His death will
be sincerely mourned.
Mr. Schug was born on July 14, 1888. After returning from
the army he married Miss Mary Schweitzer, who died about a
year after their union. His second wife who survives him, was
a daughter of Geo. Furguson, to whom he was married about eight
years ago. Mr. Schug served three years as a member of the
Board of Control. |
