Israel B. Smith, Retired Railroader
Israel B. smith, 82, a retired employee of the Delaware, Lackawanna
and Western railroad, died yesterday afternoon at his home
in Belfast, Nazareth R. D.3, He had been in ill health for
two years.
Born in Ross Township, Monroe County, On Aug 1, 1867, he was
a con of the late William and Amanda Gruver Smith. He had made
his home in the Belfast area for 35 years, and was living retired
since 1938.
Twice married, Mr. Smith’s first was the late Emma Meixell
Smith and his second wife Katherine Strawn Smith, also preceded
him in death. He was of the Lutheran faith.
Surviving are a son, Herbert B. Smith, at home; four granddaughters;
two great-grandsons; a brother, Adam Smith of Nazareth, and
three stepchildren, Harry Cawley, of Saylorsburg, George Cawley,
of Hartford, Conn., and Mrs. Florence Metz, of Nazareth.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Schmidt
mortuary, Nazareth. The Rev. Floyd R. Shafter, D.D., of Tatamy,
will officiate. Interment will be in Forks Cemetery, Forks
Township. |
