John S. Xander, Former engineer of Riegelsville
John S. Xander, 80, of 901 Church Road, Riegelsville, a former borough engineer and zoning officer for Riegelsville, died Friday night in Easton Hospital.

Born in Easton, he was the son of the late Elmer and Annie Ricker Xander.

Mr. Xander was a registerd professional engineer. He began his career working for Thomas A. Edison in his laboratory and later worked in the office of the Edison Cement Plant, Edison, N.J.

He worked as an engineer for the Delaware Valley Joint Toll Bridge Commission until 1945, when he joined Lehigh Foundries Inc., West Easton. A good part of his working years was spent with Bean Inc. Construciton Co., Easton. He was "loaned' to the Easton Hosptial to supervise the construction of one of the wings of the hospital. He returned to Bean and retired in 1977.

Mr. Xander served Riegelsville as borough engineer and zoning officer for a number of years.

He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Riegelsville, and currently was serving on the consistory.

He was building and grounds chairman of the church and a member of the Engineer Club of the Lehigh Valley. He was a graduate of Easton High School Class of 1921 and attended Lafayette College.

Mr. Xander was a 52 year Mason, and a member of the Dallas Lodge No. 396 F&AM, Easton , Easton Forest NO. 35 of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon and the Lehigh Consitory, Allentown.

Mr. Xander was a meber of the Riegelsville Fire Co. and the Home Association of Post No. 950, American Legion, Riegelsville.

He had a particular interest in steam locomotives.

He is survived by his wife, the former Eva Headman; two sons, J. David, Riegelsville and Edward H., Kintnersville R.D. 1, Pa., and four granchildren.

Memorial services willl be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. John's Church. Private interment of the ashes will take place earlier in the day at the Reigelsville Union Cemtery.
