Lawrence J. Broughal, retired prison guard
Lawrence James Broughal, 86, formerly of Pawnee Street, Bethlehem, died Tu esday, July21, in Gracedale, the Northampton County nursing home in Upp er Nazareth Township, where he was resident since 1995.
He was a prison guard at Northampton County Prison for over 20 years, reti ring in 1973.
Born in Fountain Hill, he was a son of the late James L. and Henrietta Fra nkenfield Broughal.
He was a member of St. Ursula?s Catholic Church in Bethlehem.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of the honor guard for President Franklin D. Roosevelt wh en the peace treaty was signed for World War II in Yalta. Russia.
He was a member of Pawnee Red Raiders, a semi-professional football tea m, during the 1930?s.
He is survived by two brothers, William of Sarasota, Fla.,; and Edwa rd of Orange City, Fla; a nephew, two nieces, two grand-nieces and a great -grandniece.
Graveside services ill be held at 10:15 a.m. Friday in Holy Savior Cemete ry in Bethlehem.
The Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich St., Kutztown, Pa. is in char ge of arrangements. |
