Valley Man Fatally Hurt
Foreman of Signal Construction Run Down at Glendon
Henry Clause, age 53 years, signal construction foreman on the Lehigh
Valley railroad, residing on South Dakota street, Bethlehem, was fatally
injured shortly before 10 o'clock this morning at Glendon, where he
was struck by an engine. He died at 11:45 in the Easton Hospital.
Clause was working at the Glendon interlocking plant, and got to close
to the track, when engine 790, traveling east, struck him and knocked
him down. He was immediately brought to Easton on the engine and was
placed in the Easton Hospital Ambulance, and was then taken to the
Easton Hospital, where he died. He was found to have suffered a fractured
skull, fractured elbow and wrist and other injuries.
Mr. Clause had been employed by the Lehigh Valley railroad for 31
years starting as a member of the signal gang and being promoted to
the position of foreman in 1908.
Clause lived at 511 Dakota street, Bethlehem, and was a native of
Freemansburg. He is survived by his widow, formerly Miss Maggie Applebach,
of Mauch Chunk, one son, Thomas Clause, and four daughters, Mrs. Ward
Richards, Mrs. James Bell, Mrs. R. F. Bauder and Mrs. Thomas Crow,
all of Bethlehem. He also leaves one sister and three brothers, Mrs.
James Peifer and Lloyd Clause, of Allentown, Herbert and Alvin Clause
of Easton.
Deceased was a member of Fritz Memorial Methodist church, Bethlehem
and the Knights of the Golden Eagle, Freemansburg. |
