Frances A. Dawson, formerly of Phillipsburg, died Thursday, July 12, in Moravian Hall Square Retirement Community. She was the wife of Lewis J. Dawson. They were married for 61 years last August.
She was an English teacher for Easton public schools at Wolfe, Shull and March junior highs for nine years before retiring in 1939. She attended West Chester State Teacher's College and Syracuse University and received her bachelor's degree in education.
Born in Easton, she was a daughter of the late D. Walter and Adelia (Young) Garis.
She was a member and past deacon of First Presbyterian Church, Easton.
She was a board member of the Warren County (N.J.) County Health Association and a board member and past president of the Phillipsburg Free Public Library. She was a volunteer for 22 years for Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg, and for the Maternal Health Clinic, Easton.
She was a member of the Allentown Art Museum, Hunterdon County Art Center and Easton Community Art League.
Survivors: Husband; daughter, a grandchild, four great-grandchildren.
