Answered His Last Call
John Garis, of 632 Zane Alley, was killed at Ginnard's switch,
above South Easton, on Saturday night at about 6 o'clock. Garis
left home at 5:30 for Glendon where he was car inspector and
it is thought he was struck by engine 153, Fred. Orf, Engineer,
and Charles Blank, fireman. The engine struck some obstruction
and on stopping found it be a dinner kettle. Later Conductor
Lantz found the body which was identify as that of Garis. The
body was taken to the old South Easton depot where Coroner
Schultz held an inquest and rendered a verdict of accidental
death. Undertake Taylor took charge of the remains.
Garis was in the employ of the company the past 10 or 12 years.
He was about 45 years old. He is survived by his wife and four
children. Mrs. Albert Peifer, of Easton; Mrs. Charles Bisbing,
Charles Garis and Miss Nettie Garis, of this place.
He was member of the Franklin Fire Company ever since 1870
and in al that time responded to every alarm, often leaving
his work in Glendon. |
