Fell To His Death
Youth of 19 Loss his hold and dropped from Barn
Alfred Gruver, age nineteen years was killed this morning on
a farm in Forks Township operated by William Riegel but owned
by Milton Frankenfield. The youth was employed by Riegel in
the early spring as a farm hand. At five-thirty o’clock
this morning the boy climbed to the rafters in the barn to
unfasten a tackle. A ladder was standing nearby and the boy
was told to use it but said he would rather climb up without
it.
When he reached the top of the roof which is a distance of
thirty five feet, he lost his footing. Mr. Riegel, his employer
saw him fall. He was dead when a physician arrived. Upon examination
it was found that Gruver had a fractured skull a broken arm
and he suffered from internal hemorrhages. His parents Mr.
and Mrs. Elmer Gruver live at Belfast.
