Irwin Hartzell, Operated Auto Tire Business
Irwin F. Hartzell, 71, of 735 Northampton St., Easton, died yesterday at his home after an illness of several months.
Mr. Hartzell operated an auto tire and accessories business in Easton for 40 years, retiring about 18 years ago. He opened the business at 1137 Northampton St. and later moved it to 1019 Northampton St.
Until three years ago, he lived in Brodheadsville for 18 years and employed there for 10 years.
Born Jan11, 1892, in Easton, he was a son of the late Charles and Alice Moser Hartzell. He was of the Lutheran faith.
He served as an infantry lieutenant during World War I as a member of the American Expeditionary Forces.
He was a life member of Easton Lodge 152, F*AM; Easton Forest 35, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and the Lt. E. C. baker Post 1290, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Easton Royal Arch Chapter 173; Hugh dePayens Commandery 19, Knights Templar; Forks of the Delaware Shrine club, and Brown-Lynch Post9, American Legion, all Easton; Lehigh Consistory, Allentown, and Rajah Temple, Reading.
Surviving are his widow, the former Mary E. Detweiler; three daughters, Emily, wife of Ralph Crouthamel, and Clair, wife of Warren Stout, both Easton, and Jane, wife of Frederick Lynn, Allentown R. D. 4, two sons, John Welch, Allentown R.D. 4, and Robert Welch, Easton, and eleven grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Shillinger Funeral Home, Easton. |
