Thomas J. Hess, lived 103 years
Bethlehem – Thomas J. Hess, 103, of 533 Dewberry Ave., died Saturday, May 22, in Muhlenburg Rehabilitation Center.
He was the owner of the former Hess auto Supply in Bethlehem for 50 years before retiring in 1953.
Born Oct. 24, 1889, in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Jacob Peter and Emma Seip Hess.
He was a 1906 graduate of Bethlehem High School.
He was an Army veteran of World War I.
He was a life member of St. Thomas UCC in Bethlehem and was a member of the church consistory and the Sunday school.
He was a former board member of the Lehigh Valley Motor Club and a member of the Broad & Main Streets Business Association.
He was a member of the American Legion in Bethlehem, the Bethlehem Lions Club, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Hecktown and the Bethlehem Elks No. 191.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lodge No. 283 F&AM, the Lehigh Consistory in Allentown, the Bethlehem Tall Cedars and the Rajah Temple.
He and his wife, the former Verna A. Scheirer, observed their 55th wedding anniversary last June.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, **** of Bethlehem; and three granddaughters, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. His first wife, the former Ella Keim, died in 1935, a son, Harold, died in 1923,; and a great-granddaughter, Jennifer Woodard, died in 1991.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, from the Long funeral Home, 500 Linden St., Bethlehem. Burial will be in Macada Cemetery in Bethlehem
