Finesville Youth Loses Life In Okinawa Battle
Pvt. Levi L. Laubach jr. was killed in action on Okinawa, on May 11th according to a telegram received by his father Levi L. Laubach, Sr., of Finesville.
The telegram from the Navy department states; “Deeply regret to inform you that your son, Levi L. Laubach Jr. U. S. M. C. Reserves was killed in action 11th of May 1945, at Okinawa, Ryukyu Island, in the performance of his duty and service to his country. When information is received regarding his burial, you will be notified. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy, signed Gen. A.W. Vandergrift, Commandant of the Marine Corps.”
Pvt. Laubach was born April 26, 1926, in Finesville, and attended Phillipsburg High School. He was employed by Riegel Paper Corp., prior to his induction of June 30, 1944.
He received basic training at Paris Island, S.C., and further training at Camp Lejeune, N.C. He left for overseas from Camp Pendleton, Cal., last December, for a time, Pvt. Laubach was stationed at Guadalcanal and in April he was sent to Okinawa. He was a member of the Sixth marine Division.
In addition to his father, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Harry R. Dilts, of Finesville, and these half-brothers and half-sisters; Mrs. George Young, Harry and Russell Laubach, of Riegelsville; Jesse Laubach, of Easton; Mrs. Frank Crouse, of Alpha R.D.; Benjamin and Elmer Laubach, of Finesville; Mrs. Howard Burd, Trenton R.D.; Samuel VanLuvanee, serving with the army in England and Frank and Helen Van Luvanee of Finesville. His mother died in 1938. |
