Elwood K. Lieberman, 94, of Upper Nazareth Township, formerly of Pen Argyl, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008 in Gracedale, where he was a resident for more than two years. He was the husband of the late Grace C. (Saylor) Lieberman, with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage prior to her death in 2006.
Born December 1, 1914 in Easton, he was the son of the late Frank and Sarah (Kramer) Lieberman. Elwood was a graduate of Easton High School, class of 1932. He attended the former Nazareth Hall Military Academy, from 1926 to 1929. Farming was his passion and Elwood was a proud and successful, life-long farmer of Plainfield Township. He served on the Planning Commission and Zoning Hearing Board of Plainfield Township; he was a member of the Plainfield Farmers Association and served as a director of the Northampton Farm Bureau; was a member of the Pennsylvania Farmers Association, as well as a member of the board of the Lehigh Valley Dairy Association. Elwood was an avid bowler and was a member of the Slate Belt Bowling Association. Additionally, he was a member of St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church of Plainfield Township, Pen Argyl, and served on its property and grounds committee, and he formerly served on the board of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Easton. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Odd Fellows Aluta Lodge 488.
Survivors: Two sons, ***** and his wife, **** and ***** and his wife, *****, all of Plainfield Township; a daughter, ***** and her husband, ******, of Lindenwold, N.J.; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to his late wife, Grace, he was predeceased by a daughter, Jane Matthews, two grandsons, Casey and Kris Lieberman, and three brothers, Raymond, Clayton and Floyd Lieberman.
Services: memorial, in celebration of Elwoods life will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 11 a.m. in St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church of Plainfield Township, 1422 Church Road, Pen Argyl, 18072. Friends and relatives are invited to call on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. in the church.
Interment will be private, at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the George G. Bensing Funeral Home Inc., 2165 Community Drive, Route 946, Village of Moorestown-Bath. |
