Harry John Purdy
Harry John Purdy, 94, of Warren Haven in Oxford, N.J. formerly
of Delaware park, Lopatcong Township, N.J., Wilson borough,
Pa., and Easton, died Wednesday in Warren Hospital.
He was the supervisor of the shipping department for 25 years
at the former Dixie cup Co. in Wilson, Retiring in 1962. Prior
to that, he was a supervisor of Simone’s Silk Mill in
Easton until 1927 and before that he helped as a child at the
Fairview Hotel in Easton owned by his grandfather.
Born March 8, 1897, in Easton, he was a son of the late Harry
Walter and Mary Kemmerer Purdy.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Easton.
He attended Easton High School.
He was an avid baseball fan and played hardball in the early
1920’s. He also played in the Steel Quoit League in Easton
during the 1930’s and rubber quoits in the Easton Industrial
League.
He was a life member of west Easton Athletic association and
Fleas Club of Easton.
His wife, the former Emma J. Coulp, died in 1974.
Surviving are a son, a daughter, a sister, Florence Graham
of Binghamton, N.Y.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Trinity Episcopal
Church in Easton. Interment will be in Easton Cemetery in Easton.
The Ashton Funeral Home in Easton is in charge of arrangements.
