Crashed Into Sea Caused death of Easton Aviator
Details of Accident to Staff Sargeant Unangst Received
The death of Staff Sgt. Frederick Richard Unangst was "caused
by drowning may 7, when his plane made a crash into the sea." accroding
to a letter from the War Department, received this morning by
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward F. Unangst, of 41 South Warren
Street, Easton. Sgt. Unnagst was born Sept. 16, 1912 and prior
to his induction July 31, 1942, was employed at the Chipman Knitting
mills. He was a meber of the Seventh Ward Democratic Club, Loyal
Order of Moose, Easton Lodge, No. 45, an associate member of
Lester W. Pfeffer post No. 611, American Legion and attended
St. Mark's Evangelical Church.
He received the wings of the Army Air Force Nov. 1, 1942
at the Flexible Gunnery School, fort Myers, aerial gunner
at the Armament School, Army Air base, Salt Lake City, Utah.
He had be assigned tgo duty abroad a heavy bomber and his
parents were not aware of his location of the time of the
fatal accident.
In additon to his parents, he is survived bya son, Walter
Unangst.
