A keeper at Northampton County prison for many years, Andrew
Wilhelm, 82, of 227 Bushkill Street, Easton, was struck by
an automobile about 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Third and Bushkill
Streets, Easton, and died in Easton Hospital about 4:04 a.m.
yesterday.
Pvt. Clifford Stocker, driver of the car, is home on a furlough
visiting relatives along Easton R. D. He was released by
Eaton police on his own recognizance.
Dr. David F. Bachman, coroner of Northampton County, who
made the investigation assisted by Eaton police, aid Wilhelm's
death was caused by several fractured ribs, a fractured leg,
other internal injuries and traumatic shock.
Wilhelm, according to Coroner Bachman was enroute to the
jail to take over his duties beginning at 11 p.m. and was
run down while crossing the intersection to get on a bus.
He was placed in Stocker's car and rushed to the hospital
in an unconscious condition.
Wilhelm lived at the Bushkill Street address with a daughter,
Mrs. Erna W. Albinson. The investigation will be resumed
today, Coroner Bachman said last night.
Wilhelm, a son of the late Moses and Angeline Wilhelm, was
a member of Second Methodist Church, South Easton; Easton
Aerie, FOE, and the Four - county Firemen's Association.
Besides the daughter, Mrs. Albinson, with whom he resided,
he leaves two grandsons, Dr. Frank Brink of Philadelphia
and Andrew Brink of Oregon.
The funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30
p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 226 Bushkill Street, Easton,
with Rev. Price Collins, pastor of Second Methodist Church,
officiating. Burial will take place in South Easton Cemetery.
