Clinton T. Hilliard, 76, Lumber Co. President, Died of Heart Attack

Clinton Thielens Hillliard, president of the Zearfoss-Hilliard lumber Co. and former president of the First National Bank & Trust Co., in Easton, died of a heart attack at 8 a.m. today in his home.

Mr. Hilliard resided at 124 Porter St., He was 76.

Mr. Hilliard had been president of the lumber company since 1914. He succeeded his father, the late Clinton Hilliard in the post.

He became vice president and the director of the First National Bank & Trust Co. in 1915, and was elected president following the retirement of the late Chester Snyder in 1935. He served as president until 1942 when the bank closed.

Mr. Hilliard also served as president of the old Seitz Brewing Co. and president of the Eddyside Co. when the Eddyside beach property now a city park, was privately owned.

Mr. Hilliard was born in Easton, on Feb. 20, 1884. His mother was the former Marie Louise Thielens. His wife the former Mary Willson died in 1955.

Mr. Hilliard was graduated from Lafayette College in the class of 1904. He was a graduate of Lerch’s Academy.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Easton, and the Pomfret Club. He was believed to be the only person to be a member of the both the Rotary Club and the Kiwanis club in Easton.

Surviving are a son, Clinton Jr., Perth Amboy, N.J., and a daughter, Miss Mary WIllson Hilliard, at home.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at his home.
