C.R. Kiefer, 64, Owner of Store, Dies in Hospital
C. Raymond Kiefer, 64, of 103 Burke St., Easton, Owner of the
J.M. Kiefer hardware store at 460 Nrothampton ST., died last
night at 11:50 o'clock in Easton Hosptial. He was admitted
on November 16.
Mr. Kiefer had been associated with the hardware store about
49 years. The business which was founded by his father, J.M.Kiefer,
will be 50 years old on April 1.
He started to work in his father's sore when he was 15 years
old. He became a partner in the business with his father in
1935, and took over full ownership of the store when the elder
Mr. Kiefer died two years ago.
Born in Easton on Oct. 25, 1889, he was a son of Mr. Kiefer
and Elizabeth Kern Kiefer. He was graduated from the old Nazareth
Hall Military Academy and Lerch's Prepatory School, Easton.
In 1904 he passed an entrance examination to Lafayette College,
but instead of going to college he went into business with
his father.
During World War I, he interruipted his business career for
a short time by serving in the U.S. Navy Air Corps.
Mr. Kiefer was a charter member of Brown & Lynch Post
9, American Legion. He was a member of College Hill Presbyterian
Chruch; Dallas Lodge 396, F & AM, and Lehicton Lodge 244,
IOOF, all of Easton.
Surviving are his widow, the former Anna Arm, a son, Dr. C.
Raymond Kiefer, Jr. of Hartford Connecticut and four grandchildren. |
