R. L. Shipe, 49, Steel Expediter, War II Veteran.
Robert L. Shipe, 49, of 9834 Hill St. Phillipsburg, died
last night in Easton Hospital after a long illness.
He was employed for the last five years as an expediter
in the production department at the Bethlehem Steel Co. plant
at Bethlehem.
Mr. Shipe was born in Easton, a son of the late Cora Coyle
Shipe. He was graduated from Phillipsburg High School in
1926 and the University of Kentucky in 1932.
He served in the Army from 1941 to 1946. In 1945 he was
captain in charge of the Army separation center at Camp Butner,
N.C. Previously he had been an instuctor at the Camp Barkley,
Tx. motor transport school He was separated from miliatray
service with rank of major.
Mr. Shipe was on of the Phillipsburg men who organized the
Phillipsburg Republican Club in February, 1953. He served
as secretary of the club in 1953 and 9154. He also was associated
iwth the Steele's Hill Boys club, serving 1953 and 1954 as
publicity chairman for the club which supervised and sponsored
midget athletic teams.
Before going to work with Bethlehem Steel, he was employed
by the Veterans Administration offices in Washington D. C.
and Dallas, Tex. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivng are his widow, the former Dorothy Smith, two sons,
a brother, Frank, The Republic
of Haiti, and a sister, Mrs. Robert Miller, Baltimore, Me.
The funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Hagerty
Colonial Home, Phillipsburg. |
