Passed Away: 12/03/2009

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 on Tuesday, December 15 in the chapel of Little and Davenport Funeral Home, for David Allen Sloyer, 69, who passed away Thursday, Dec.3rd at Northeast Georgia Medical Center after an extended illness.

He was born to the late Alice Virginia Sloyer and George Mark Sloyer in Topeka, Kansas. His late sister was Virginia Cox of Topeka, Kansas, and brother was Irvin Clyde (Bus) Sloyer of Topeka, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Linda Harwell Sloyer, of Gainesville; his sisters, ***** of Topeka, Kansas and *****l of Overland Park, Kansas; sisters and brothers in-law ***** of Topeka, Kansas and ***** of San Francisco, California; brothers and sisters-in-law ****** of Cumming, Georgia and ****** of Hutchinson, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dave married Linda, a "Gainesville girl", in 1979. After living in Atlanta for 15 years, they moved back to Gainesville in 1994. Dave graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.

After college, Dave went to work for Aerojet General in California. From there he came to Marietta, Ga. to work at Lockheed in 1965. His love for automobile racing was a driving force in his life. After pulling his race cars all over the country doing club races, he decided to build a race track at home, so in 1969 Road Atlanta was born. Dave was the designer and founder of Road Atlanta, and remained at the track as Vice President and General Manager until 1979. In 1970 he received an award from the State of Georgia Athletic Hall of Fame as a Finalist for Sports Executive of the Year in recognition of his achievements as founder of Road Atlanta. He went into Sales and Services after Road Atlanta, but continued to love all forms of motor sports. Dave loved spicy foods. After a successful liver transplant in 1995, he developed his own company, Sarchi Foods, and his own salsas and hot sauce products. In 2000 he built a manufacturing plant in Cleveland, Ga. to further develop his own product line and to manufacture for many other small companies.

He was a man who never gave up on anything! He was loyal to his friends, and he never forgot his blessings. He spent many years as a volunteer speaker for Lifelink spreading the word about the importance of organ donation and the miracle of his own life. He loved his God. He loved his family and his dog, Pepper. He will be missed by all those who knew him.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to Shepherd's Staff, a ministry for children in the Gainesville/Hall county area at St. Luke's Church. The address is Shepherd's Staff, P.O. Box 27, Gainesville, Ga. 30503
