Born in Easton, Pa., he resided here for the past 55 years. He retired 20 years ago as a general baggage and mail traffic manager for the Lehigh Valley Railroad, New York, where he had worked for 50 years.
He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and the Old Guard. He was a lifetime member of the Westfield Tennis Club, served on the board of governors and was instrumental in establishing the tennis facility in Tamaques Park.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mable (Schug) Hammer, a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy H. Anderson of Westfield, a granddaughter and two great-grandsons.
Funeral services were held yesterday morning at the Gray Funeral Home wi th the Rev. Hugh Livengood of St. Paul's Episcopal Church officiating. Int erment was in Fairview Cemetery.
