James A. Root
James Andrew Root, a retired teacher and Lafayette College graduate, di ed at 4:30 this morning at his home, 607 High Street, College Hill of hea rt trouble, super induced by diabetes. He was in the 57th year of his age.

Mr. Root was born in Bath, this county, on June 11, 1872, and was a s on of Mrs. Matilda and the late William Root. He was graduated from Kutzto wn State Normal School in 1896 and from Lafayette College in 1901,with t he degree of bachelor of arts. He took post graduate courses at both Colum bia University, New York and Chicago University.

For 12 years he taught in Northampton county schools and from 1905 to 191 0, he taught mathematics in the Trenton, N.J. High school from 1910 to 192 6, he taught mathematics in the South Side High School at Newark, N. J. he was compelled to retire in 1926 owning to failing health. Later h is eyesight became seriously affected.

Mr. Root was a man of high ideals and was esteemed by many as a staunch a nd true friend. Student and associates in teaching crops have attest ed to his efficiency as an instructor and he was considered one of the mo st successful teachers of mathematics in New Jersey.

Deceased was a member of Masonic lodge at Hazelton and was a member of t he Lutheran congregation of Forks Church. He was unmarried and is surviv ed by his mother, Mrs. Matilda Root and by a sister, Miss Elizabeth C. Roo t, of 607 High Street.
