Ended Life with Shotgun
Despondent because of ill health, George Knecht, a well-known reside nt of Pen Argyl, committed suicide. He arose without awaking his wi fe or children and taking a shotgun went into the back year. There he car efully placed the barrel of the weapon aganst his bare breast and pushed t he trigger with a long stick. The shot entered the heart and caused insta nt death.
Knecht had lately been working as a painter at Nazareth. he was abo ut 50 years of age. For two years hehad been indeclining health and he co ntantly brooded over that misfortune.

Carefully Planned Suicide
Pen Argyl Man, Despondent from Illness, Put End to His Life of Misery
Melancholy because of ill health, George Knecht, about 50 years of age, co mmitted suicide early this morning in the yard in the rear of his residenc e, on North Main street, Pen Argyl. It was between 4 and 5 o'clock when Kn echt, without awaking his wife, slipping out into the yard, placed the muz zle of his shotgun against his left breast and, by striking the trigger wi th a stock, discharged the weapon. The charge of shot tore a hole throu gh his body a short distance below the heart.

Mrs. Knecht, awaked by the report of the gun and missing her husband r an to the yard, where she found his lifeless remains. There was plen ty of evidence to show that he the act have been carefully planned. Neighb ors carried the body into the house. Coroner Schleicher was notified and l et on an early train to investigate the matter.

The deceased man, who was a painter by trade, had been in failing health f or two or three years. He tried to fill the position of hostler at the Alb ion Hotel, but was compelled to quit work a couple of months ago. A wid ow and two children survive him.
