Lydia Carpenter Dies, Valleyite Over 70 Years
Mrs. Lydia Mary Carpenter, 78, of 84 Lincoln Street, Waverly, a Valley res dient for over 70 years, died this morning in Tioga County General Hospit al following a long illness.

She was a member of the Waverly Methodist Church, Fidelis class of the chu rch, a former president of the WCTU, and was active throughout her li fe in church and community projects.

Born in Belfast, Pa., the daughter of J. J. Miller, pioneer slate contract or in Pennsylvania, Mrs. Carpenter attended Sayre schools and was graduat ed in the class of '93. She had resided in Waverly for 41 years.

She is survived by two sons, Max E. Carpenter of Waverly and Charles B. Ca rpenter of Miami, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. Edward Asch of Houston, Texa s, Mrs. Vernon B. Wood of Hollywood, Calif. and Mrs. Bud K. Strader of Fre eport, Long Island; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Mathews and Mrs. Mathew Brosze it of Sayre; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Luckner Funeral home, 449 Park Avenue, waverly, wh ere the funeral service will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 Rev. Arth ur Salin, pastor of Waverly Methodist Church, will officate.

Burial will be in Tioga Point cemetery at the convenience of the family.
