Former Easton Man, Prominent Jerseyite, Dies
Charles R. Smith, former resident of Easton, died Friday night in his ho me at South Plainfield, N.J. one day for his 69th birthday.

Smith lived in Easton for about 20 years before moving to South Plainfie ld in the early 1920?s. While in Easton he was employed by Ingersoll-Ra nd Co.

He was born in Elizabeth, N.J. a son of the late Charles R. and Mary Smit h. He retired in 1953 from employment with the Wood Newspaper Mfg. Co. Pla infield.

He was a member of and past president of South Plainfield Lions Club, form er borough councilman in South Plainfield and a member of Jerusalem Lodg e, F&AM, South Plainfield. In Easto he held memberships in Lehicton Lod ge 244, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and South Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are two sons, Roger, South Plainfield, and Willard New Market, N .J.; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Billett, Neptune, N.J., and Mrs. Florence Hu nt, at home; seven grandchildren; a half-sister, Violet H. Montgomery, a nd a half-brother, S. Allison Montgomery, both of Easton.

Services will be at 3 p.m. tomorrow in the Stunk Funeral Home, Easton, wi th viewing from noon until time of service.
