John F. Mengel, 78, of Bethlehem died Monday, Sept. 20, in St. Luke's Hosp ital, Fountain Hill. He was the husband of Mary (Kreidler) Mengel. They we re married for 54 years last November.
He was a project engineer for Bethlehem Steel Corp. for more than 30 yea rs until retiring in 1981.
Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Pearl (Harmo n) Mengel.
He was a member of Edgeboro Moravian Church, Bethlehem.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a Lehigh University graduate and me mber of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Hiawatha Hunting and Fishing Clu b, Analomink, Monroe County.
He also was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and t he Association of Iron and Steel Engineers.
Survivors: Wife; daughters, Mary Elizabeth, wife of Jim Wentworth of Natch ez, Miss., and Barbara, wife of Richard Yontz of Springfield, Ohio; son Jo hn of Michigan City, Ind.; sister, June Emery of Bethlehem, and nine grand children.
