Joseph Lum, 99, Boatman; Had Candy Business 32 Years
Joseph Alexander Lum, 99, of 725 Center St. Easton, was dead on arrival
Saturday night at Easton Hospital.
Mr. Lum was employed 31 years in Ingersoll-Rand Co. in West Easton
and Phillipsburg. He then established a wholesale candy business, which
he operated 32 years, retiring when he was 80.
As a boy, he worked as a boatman with his father on the Delaware and
Morris Canals.
Born on Nov 25, 1876, in Glendon, he was a son of the late Joseph
A. and Mary Brotzman Lum.
He was the oldest member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Easton,
and it's Sunday school, and formerly served on its consistory. He was
also a member of Dallas Lodge 396, F&AM; Pomp Council 20, Royal
and Select Masters; Easton Royal Arch Chapter 173, Golden Age Club
and the MORA Club, where he was first Vice president. He formerly served
in the National Guard.
His wife, the former Ada M Garis, died in 1966.
Survivors include a son, Stanley E. A. Lum, Easton; Two-grandchildren
and Two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Strunk Funeral
Home, Easton. Interment will be in Hay's Cemetery, MORA Club services
will be held at 7:30 home, followed by Masonic Services at 8 p.m. at
the funeral home
