R.F. Babp Dies At Shore
Former Nazareth Postmaster and Bank Head Was in 89th Year
Rudolph F. Babp, a former resident of Nazareth, former postmaster of that place and president of the Second National Bank, Nazareth, died at 12:30 this morning at the home of of step-son, Rev. Luther D. Lazarus, at Asbury Park, N.J., where had had resided since February, 1929. Mr. Babp was in his 89th year and death was caused by infirmities of old age.

He was born in Fork Township. This county, on June 20, 1841, a son of Aaron F. and Mary Schweitzer Babp, and received his education in the public schools of Lower Nazareth Township and the Moravian Parochial School of Nazareth, after completing his studies he learned the trade of harness maker, but he soon abandoned this line of industry for the drug business, which he successfully followed for 20 years and he then sold his store to William Crawford.

In 1869 he was appointed as postmaster of Nazareth by President U. S. Grant and he held that office until the fall of 1885. Mr. Babp was one of the organizers and was chosen as present of the Second National Bank, the building for which was erected in 1900 and the bank was officially opened for business in1901. He was also one of the organizers and was vice president of the Nonpareil Brick and Clay Company. He was actively associated with the laying out of Greenwood cemetery and in company with Calvin F. smith, donated the land for the public park in Nazareth.

In 1861 Mr. Babp married Josephine Schaum, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Schaum of Plainfield township, and they were the parents of one child, Adam Frederick, who died ag the age of seven months. The death of Mrs. Babp occurred in July 1894. In 1895, Mr. Babp chose for his second wife, Mrs. Amanda L. Lazarus, the daughter of Solomon Dech, and widow of Rev. George M. Lazarus, a Lutheran clergyman. His second died in January 1929. Mr. Babp was the last of his family. He was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Nazareth.

The funeral will be held on Monday with services at Asbury Park at 3 a.m. daylight saving time, and further services in the Rohn Funeral Home, Nazareth, at 1 p.m. daylight saving time. Interment in Greenwood cemetery, Nazareth.
