Mrs. Porter Shimer, 90, Widow of Noted Chemist
Mrs. Elizabeth Sandt Shimer, 90, widow of Dr. Porter W. Shimer, a noted Chemist and metallurgist died yesterday afternoon at her home, 94 Pennsylvania avenue, Easton.
Mrs. Shimer was active for many years in the work of many church, welfare and social organizations. She was born in Stockertown, Nov. 9, 1858, a daughter f the late Dr. John Sandt and Sophia Frace Sandt. She resided in Easton nearly all her life. Her husband died in 1938.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, and it’s Von Bora Circle and Missionary Society; George Taylor Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; Northampton County Historical and Genealogical Society; Pennsylvania German Society; Women’s auxiliary of Easton Hospital, and the Y.W. C. A She also was a former member of the Easton Woman’s club.
Surviving are a son, Edward B. Shimer, of Forks Township; two daughter, Mrs. J. Willard Paff and Mrs. Paul Hoffman, both of Easton; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. S. Harrison Lovewell, of Arlington, Mass. |
