Margaret S. H. Burns
Margaret Shimer Hoffman Burns, formerly of Easton, died March 29 I her home in Pacific Grove, Calif., in her 100th year.
Born Dec. 17, 1889, in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Porter W. and Elizabeth Sandt Shimer. On both sides of her family, she was descended from early settlers of Northampton County who moved from Germantown, pa., in the early 1700’ws and established farm homesteads.
She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Monterey History and Art Association, Carmel Women’s Club and Monterey Peninsula volunteer services.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Paul Hoffman, former chief engineer at Ingersoll-Rand Co. in Phillipsburg and A. Gordon Burns. She moved to California in 1954.
Surviving are two sons, Charles Robert Hoffman, of Berkeley, Calf., and John Shimer Hoffman of Diamond Springs, Calif; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held in her home. Interment in Easton Cemetery in Easton, under direction of Paul’s Mortuary in Pacific Grove. |
