W. B. Drinkhouse Found Dead in Local Cemetery
Self-Inflicted Wound Caused End: Worried About Health
Wallace Bruce Drinkhouse, 56 years old, of 823 Burke Street, this city, w as found dead in Easton Heights Cemetery, shortly after 5 o?clock yesterd ay afternoon with self-inflicted bullet wound through the heart. A .32 cal ibre revolver was found near the body, with one chamber empty.

Dr. David F. Bachman, of Bethlehem, Coroner for Northampton County, who ma de the investigation said that worry over his physical condition had promp ted Mr. Drinkhouse to take his own life. He had been suffering from a hea rt condition and in the note addressed to his wife, found near the bod y, he expressed fear that he might be disabled by a heart attack a nd be a burden on his family.

Heard Shot
The body was found by Carl Walters, caretaker oat the cemetery. Mr. Walte rs said he that at about 3 o?clock in the afternoon he had heard a shot fi red somewhere in the vicinity of the cemetery grounds. The noise also attr acted the attention of George L. Shillinger, funeral director, who w as in the cemetery at the time directing an interment.. The shot then w as believed to have been fired by youths in nearby fields and no further a ttention was given to the incident at the time.

Mr. Walters late went to his home for supper and then decided to make an i nvestigation. This lead to the finding of the body along the fence near t he northeast corner of the cemetery. Coroner Bachman was notified and toge ther with Officer William McCabe, of Easton police force, he conduct ed an investigation.

According to Mrs. Etta Drinkhouse, his wife, Mr. Drinkhouse went to the of fice of his physician Dr. J. E. Fretz, yesterday morning and consulted h im about his heart condition. He went home for lunch and later left the ho use apparently to return to work That was the last seen of him a nd he is thought to ended his life in the cemetery at about 3 o?clock.

Native of Easton
Mr. Drinkhouse was born in Easton, Jan. 12, 1886, a son of the late Fra nk and Jane Drinkhouse. He was graduated from Easton High School June 3 0, 1904, and then entered Lafayette College graduating in 1908 with the de gree of Bachelor of philosophy. After graduation he was employed by the B ell Telephone Company and the Northampton Traction company.

He was secretary-treasurer of the Pomfret Realty Company for the last 20 y ears and for the last two years was employed as senior interviewer at t he office of the Bureau of Employment and unemployment Compensation, Sta te Department of Labor and Industry, 15 North Fourth Street. For six yea rs he was treasurer of the Lehigh Water Company, this city.

Mr. Drinkhouse was also an attach? of the U. S. District Court, Post Offi ce Building. He was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity, Lafayette Colle ge and was treasure of the town house committee of that fraternity. He w as a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was secretary of the Brai nerd Presbyterian Sunday School for a number of years. For many years he w as a member of the Spartan Club, of this city.

For a number of years he was secretary and treasurer of the old Easton-Phi llipsburg Bridge Company before the bridge was taken over by the Delawa re River Joint Toll Bridge Commission.

Mr. Drinkhouse was born in the residence, 247 Spring Garden Street, on t he site of the present Y. M. C. A. he was a member of a family long promin ent in Easton and his grandfather, the late Samuel Drinkhouse, owned mo st of the property in the Southeast corner of Centre Square. He possess ed a most genial disposition and was popular among a wide circle of friend s. His favorite sport was swimming and he was familiar figure at Eddyside.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Etta Lerch Drinkhouse and two sons, Dav id and Wallace Bruce Drinkhouse, Jr., living at home.

Mr.Drinkhouse was formerly a member of the Pomfret Club and for several ye ars served as treasurer of the organization.
