John Johnston, aged seventy one years of Lower Nazareth township, died yes terday afternoon.

John Johnson, a son of Martin and Margaret Johnson, was born on the old fa mily homestead in Palmer Township in 1826 and died in 1897. On leaving sch ool he devoted his entire attention to farming, having in the meantime spe nct his vacations i the work of field and meadow. throughout his busiens c areer he engaged in teh the tilling of soil. In politics he was a Democar at, but never sough or desired office. At the time of the Civil War he w as draftered for service, but feeling theat he could not leave his fa rm he sent a substitute.. He married Susana Johnson, a daughte rof Willi am and mary Johnson, the former a farmer of lower Nzareth township, Northa mtpon County, Unto his marriage were bon six children; Andrew B.; Sabill a, who married Frank Gold, by whom she had eight cvhildren; Martin, wedd ed Amanda Messinger, by whom he had two choidren; James, who weded Ell en Knecht, and ahd eight children, Emma, who mwedded harvey Meixell, a nd is the mother of three children; Abbasena, who first wedded Benjamin Sc hortz By shome she had two children, and later married Thomas Dornblase r, by whom sh has four chldren.
