George J. "Dutch" Purdy Sr., 85, formerly of 835 Louis St., Easton, died W ednesday, July 3, in Eastwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wilso n. He was the husband of Irene (Reich) Purdy. They were married 59 years l ast October.
He worked at J.T. Baker Chemical Co., Phillipsburg, for 43 years before re tiring in 1976, and was a member of its Quarter Century Club.
Born in Easton, he was a son of the late Raymond and Nina (Buss) Purdy.
He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Easton.
A four-sport star athlete at Easton High School, he lettered in footbal l, baseball, basketball and track and was quarterback and captain of its 1 930 football team.
Purdy attended Blair Academy and was instrumental in their 1931 prep-scho ol football championship.
Also a football official and baseball umpire in the Lehigh Valley for mo re than 20 years, he was a PIAA official in both sports and an official wi th the former Continental Football League.
He was a charter member of the Poco Ski Club, receiving the club's White S tag Award, and a past member of the National Ski Patrol, serving the Poco no Mountain region.
Purdy was a member of the Wilson Republican Club;
Survivors: Wife; daughter, Diane Meyers of Easton; sons, G. James Jr. of D avidsonville, Md., and Robert S. of Wilson; sister, Mary Hackman of Easto n, and six grandchildren.
Memorial services: 2 p.m. Sunday in the church. No calling hours. Arrangem ents, Cremation Society of Pennsylvania.
