Robert Hawk Died at 40: Call-Chronicle Supervisor
Robert T. Hawk, a carrier supervisor in the Call-Chronicle Newspapers circ ulation department and a prominent stock car racing figure in Lehigh Valle y, died unexpected yesterday as he prepared to drive home from work. He w as 40.

A fellow employee, Frank Slivka of the newpaper advertising department, no ticed Hawk seated in his car on a parking lot at 65h and Chew Sts., abo ut 5:30 p.m. He appeared ill.

Slivka drove Hawk to the office of Dr. Elmer H. Bausch a block away, at 7 th and Chew Sts. Hawk died moments later.

Lehigh County Coroner Clayton O. P. Werley said death was caused by a hea rt attack.

Hawk, who resided at Summit Lawn, had been employed by the Call-Chronic le Newspapers for seven years. Prior to that he worked for a time for t he Newark, N.J., Star-Ledger, He was a native of Bethlehem, a son of Mr s. Mary Reph, who still resides there, and the late Phillip Hawk. He w as a member of ST. Andrew?s Lutheran Church, Summit Lawn.

Started as Driver
Hawk had been a figure in auto racing driving of stock cars, he for abo ut 20 years. Starting as a racing driver of stock cars, he often raced und er the name of ?The Flying Hawk.? Later, when other drivers raced his car s, the name was still sometimes used.
Later he moved into flagging.

More recently he was offic8ial scorer for Nazareth Speedway and Dorney Pa rk track.

Hawk also owned several stock cars during his careet. His latest, work ed on by himself and his son-in-law, Michael Fox of Bethlehem, was field l ast season and immediately became familiar to racing fans in the area.

Distinguishable by its all-white body and bright red number ?22?, it appea red on local and New Jersey stock car tracks last season and this seaso n, driven by Bill Lavenberg of Allentown.

Lavenburg was racing ?22? at Nazareth Speedway last night when a friend a nd fellow employee of Hawk?s reporter John T. Cathers, told Lavenburg of H awk?s death.

Hawk was also official flag man at the Grand Prix Kart club of America rac es every Sunday after afternoon at Dorney Park.

Survivors:
Hawk was married to the former Vilma Wrescics of Coopersburg R. 1, who sur vives him. Also surviving are four children, Leona, wife of Michael Fox, B ethlehem; Robert Jr., aboard the aircraft carried Franklin D. Roosevelt wi th the U. S. 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean; Frank John and Sandra Lee, bo th at home; one grandchild; a brother William of Bethlehem; two sisters, I rene, wife of James Johnson, Long Island, and Dorothy, wife of Nick Ackerm an, Bethlehem; five stepbrothers, David, James and Martin Reph, of Bethleh em; Raymond Reph of Georgia, and Sidney Reph of Butztown; and two stepsist ers, Florence, wife of Charles Hawkins, Fort Worth, Tex., and Helen, wi fe of George Terrell, Maryland.

Services are being arranged by the Werley Funeral Home, Successor to Willi am H. Derr, at 46 E. Susquehanna St., Allentown.
