Rev. Franklin Hottel Succumbs; Served half Century in Pulpits.
The Rev. Franklin M. Hottel, who retired in 1954 after a 50-year care er in the ministry of the Mennonite Brethren in Christ church, died last n ight at his home, 531 N. 8th St., Allentown, after a three-month illnes s. He was 78.

Licensed by the Mennonite church conference in 1905, he was ordained in 19 09.he served pastorates in Washington, N.J; the Fleetwood ? Blanden - Ter ry Hill Circuit; Shamokin; and the four largest church in the conferenc e, Salem at Philadelphia; Grace at Reading; Ebenezer at Bethlehem and Bet hl at Allentown.

For nearly six years after his retirement he continued to be active in t he church, filling in for other ministers, temporarily taking a pastora te in new jersey and assisting in serving Bethel Bible Fellowship church w here he was a deacon, a class leader, a member of the board and a memb er of the church choir. He lived in Allentown since retiring.

For a number of years he had been song leader at Allentown?s Mizpah Gro ve Camp meetings.

He served on many conference organizations including the conference boa rd of directors, it?s foreign missions board and board of trustees of t he Church Home. He was also chairman of the annual Mizpah Grove camp meet ing committee for many years.

Rev. Hottel?s wife, the former Ida G. Moyer, worked closely with him in t he work of the church. They doubled Sunday school and church programs thro ugh a unique method of organizing a cooperative team of workers with the c hurches he served. March 3, 1960 the observed their 54th wedding anniversa ry.
Rev. Hottel was born in Coopersburg, a son of the ate Solomon and Mary (Mu sselman) Hottel.


Surviving, besides his wife, are six children, Harvey W., Bethesda, Md.; C larence W., Baltimore; the Rev. Winfred W., Mt. Carmel; Ruth H. Wife of He rbert P. Cassel, Allentown; Verletta M., wife of Byron C. Cassel, Glensid e, and Grayce P., wife of Ralph W. Reed, Reading; 16 grandchildren and sev en great-grandchildren.

Services will be held 2:340 p.m. Thursday in the Bible Fellowship Churc h, Allentown. Viewing will be 7-8:30 P.m. Wednesday at the Trexler Funer al Home, 1625 Highland St., Allentown.
