Rites Set for Floyd Brotzman cited as mathematics teacher.

Services for Floyd A. Brotzman, 94, former Easton educator, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in teh Strunk Funeral Home, Easton. Interment will be in Hay's Cemetery.

formerly of 724 Milton St., Easton. Mr. Brotzman died Monday in Lehigh Manor, Allentown, where he was a guest ince Augsut 1970.

1 1904 graduate of Easton High School, he was a 1908 honor gradaute of Lafayette College where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received an honorary doctor of science degree in education from Lafayette in 1959.

Upon graduation he was teacher preincipal of the East Amwell Twonship school, Ringoes, N.J., and from 1910 to 1913 he was principal of Vandeveer school, Easton.

In 1913 Mr. Brotzman joined the staff at Easton High School teaching algebra, trigonomety and solid geometery. He retired in 1957 as the senior member and chariman of the mathematics department. His career spanned 47 years as a teacher of higher mathematics, 44 of which were spent at Easto nHigh School. While there, he also served as advisor to the Mathematics Club and the National Honor Society chapter.

His teaching career was interrupted when he served as a private in the U. S. Army Signal Corps in France and Belgium during World War I. He also taught mathematics to ASTP engineering students at Lafayete College during the summer of 1943 and was a private tutor.

Mr. Brotzman was the first recipient of the Rotary Club of Easton's outstanding teacher award, instituted in 1955. In March 1958 he was honored at the annual celebration of Easton High School Day as a vital force in education, especially for engineering aspirants and received a bound portfolio commemorating his many years of service..

He was one of the dedicated mention in the book, "Design of Film Bearings," by Paul R. Trumperk former Easton Resdient, who cited him as one of the men who have "profounded influenced the author's intellectual growth."

An avid baseball fan, Mr. Brotzman at one time coached jayvee baseball teams at Easton High School.

born in Easton, on Oct 12, 1886, he was a son of the late Irwin and Salina Nolf Brotzman.

A lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutehran Church, Easton, he served for many years as its Sunday school superintendent. he served as secretary of the former Chautauqua Association for many eyars and wasa a member of Dallas Lodge No. 396, F. A.M., Easton, and the National Retired Teachers Association.

Surving are two nephews and a grandniece.
