Edwin Franklin Steinmetz was born near Nazareth, Northamp ton Co., Pa., Jan. 24, 1848, and died in Alden, Kan., Jan. 5,1908, aged 59 years, 11 months and 11 days. He grew to young manhood in Pennsylvania and at sixteen years of age he enlisted as a soldier in the Civil War, serving about one year and a-half until the close of the war. Soon Q-ffoT Via romnvorl fn AT iViirrjnl where in Locksport, St. Joseph Co., he was married to Frederica Godshalk, on March 22, 1865. Four children were born to this union. In 1878, the family came to Rice County, Kan., residing in or near Alden since that time. The subject of this sketch was converted soon after his marri age and was for many years a faithful member of the Evangelical Association. He withdrew later, but continued to attend its services and worship most of the time. His wife, one son, one daughter and many relatives and friends mourn their loss. Funeral services were held in the Evangelical church on Monday, Jan.6, conducted by the pastor, Rev. F. U. Moyer assisted by Rev. W. L. Davies, pastor of the M. E. church, and his body laid to rest int he Alden Cemetery. |
