Gideon Steinmetz Gideon Steinmetz was born in Northempton County, Penu , July, 21, 1835 and died at Simla, Colo , Jan. I7,1918 aged 82 years 5 months and 26 days. With his family they moved to Michigan, where they lived 9 years, coming to Kansas in 1878, they settled on and improved a farm one m'le north of Alden. Later in years they moved to Alden and contin ued to reside until the the dep ature of his companion 22 years ago when he , went to Colorado, esiding with his children, later moving witn tnem to uregoti where he rem-tined until June 10 last coming again to Colorado, making his home at with his-son. Charles, where ' he ended his earthly career. v Fathej Steinmetz was the old ett of a family of eight children, surviving them all. - He is sur vived by six children, three girls and three boys, four of whom were present. Mrs. Schlock of Blue-Springs, Nebr , Mrs. Ostoff of Wichita, C. S. Steinmetz of Simla, Colo., and M. J. Steinmetz of Emporia. F. J. Steinmetz who met recently met with a sad accident, preceded his father in dath just two weeks. In early life he united with the Lutheran church and when mov ing west united with the Ev. church and was a member at the time of his death. Father Steinmetz was concious until the last and wlvn asked in reference to funeral arrangements, expressed his desire ' to be laid beside his companion and where he spent so many years. The night before his departure when asked in answer to a letter from one of the children who wrote tell Father I will' meet him in Heaven, said, I would like to see all the children and tell him it's all right I am ready to go and fell asleep without a struggle on Thursday morning at 8 a. m.' The funeral services were held at, the Evangelical church on Sunday morning and interment was made in the Alden cemetery
