MRS. GEO. OSTHOFF
Died at Her Home in Wichita at an Early Hour This Morning
Word was received by -friends in Sterling Thursday morning stating that Mrs. George Osthoff, for many years a resident of this city, had passed away this morning at about five o'clock at her home in Wichita. Her death was due to diabetes and gangrene. She had been in failing health for the last few years suffering from diabetes and for the last six weeks her condition had been critical Gangrene had developed in one foot and leg as a result of the diabetes and for the last few weeks she had been apparently at the very portal of death.
Mrs. Osthoff, who was before marriage Miss Emma Steinmetz, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gideon Steinmetz, who for many years made their home in the vicinity of Alden. She was born in Pennsylvania but the most of her girlhood was spent; on a farm near Alden.'
Her marriage to George Osthoff took place in this city and for many years the couple made their home here. Some years ago they moved to Wichita where they have since resided.
Mrs. Osthoff was widely known and greatly beloved throughout this city and community, where she made her home for so many years. Her minis tries -to the sick and sorrowing are gratefully jremembered by a large number, to whom she proved a veritable angel of mercy in hours of. need. No distance was too great or no storm to severe as to keep her from the bedside of those whom she knew need ed her help. She gave her help cheerfully and gladly, happy in the opportunity to serve her Master thru her service to others.
She was at one time a member of the Methodist church of this city and was also a member of the Daughters of Rebekah lodge of this city. After moving to Wichita' she transferred both her church and her lodge membership to the organizations in that cjty.
Mrs. Osthoff is survived by her hus band and by three children, George Jr., whose home is in Colorado, Mrs.' Carrie Retchif, whose .home is in Arizona, and Mrs. Gertrude Murphy, of McAllister, Oklahoma. One little son died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Allie Mopin, died only a few months ago.
