Linotype Operator End Life With Gas
Eugene GROW, former Allentonian, Dead At Easton
Eugene Grow, formerly of Allentown and one of the best known linotype oper ators in the Lehigh Valley, committed suicide in the shop of his Chemic al Publishing company at Easton during Thursday nigt by inhaling illuminat ing gas from a tube which fed into the machine that he had been operati ng for the company for some time past.

The sad ending of the young man came as the result of a protracted spre e, which had ended apparently on Thursday evening when he reported for wo rk on the night shift of the Chemical Publishing Company, being at that ti me apparently sober. At six o?clock yesterday morning when the foreman ar rived at the plant he smelled gas and investigating found Grow lying on t he floor near his machine with the rubber tube inserted in his nostril.

Grow was twenty-eight years of age and was born in Coopersburg, the s on of Monroe and Emma Grow. He picked up a little smattering of his print ing trade in a shop of the Coopersburg Setinel before the family remov ed to this city when he became office boy at the Allentown Daily Leade r. He was bright and quick and though his education had been neglecte d, he speedily picked up the operation of the linotype machine, learni ng it in spare time when the machines were idle. Almost before he was o ut of knee breeches he was one of the best operators on the type-setting m achine in this section. He filled position on about every paper in this s ection, and about five years ago went to Easton where he was since employ ed in various shops. Besides his parents he is survived by his widow, w ho was nee Rosie Kahler, and three little children, Marion, Eugene a nd an infant. There are two brothers, and two sisters, Herbert, Calvin, M rs. Kate Wieand and Mrs. Lillie Brinker, all of this city.

The remains have been taken in charge by an Easton undertaker and wi ll be brought to this city for interment on Monday afternoon. Services wi ll be held at the parents? home, no. 936 Monroe Street.
