Death of Ira Danner
His Untimely End the Result of an Accident
Ira A. Danner died on Thursday monring at his home of his parents, Mr. a nd Mrs. George Danner, 429 North Sixth Street, after a lingering illnes s, caused by an accident while he was a soldier in the regular army.
Mr. Danner was a member of Company D during the Spanish-American War, a nd went to Porto Rico with the Fourth Regiment. After the war he enlist ed inthe 7th Battery M. in January, 1900, while riding in artilliery hor se in Washington, D. C. He was trhown by his horse and the animal stepp ed on him, crushing his hip. He spent nine weeks in the army hospital at W ashington and later was an invalid about the barracks. Hip consumption de veloped and he was honorably discharged last August. he grew worse gradua lly and took to bed during the winter. He fought death like at true soldie r, and succumbed only after the disease made terrible inroads on his const itution. He was one of finest-looking soldiers that ever left Allento wn to fight for Uncle Sam.
Deceased was 21 years of age. Previously to enlisting he was a silk weave r. He leaves his parents, one sister, Miss Viola Danner, teacher in the A llen Bulding, and three brothers, Norman, clerk in the second National ban k; George, employed at the Wire Mill,and Ralph. Funeral on Sunday afterno on, with services in Zion Reformed Church and interment in Greenwood Cemet ery. |
