Hans George Hertzel Sr. arrived in America on 18 September 1727 on the shi p
"William and Sarah". There were four persons in his party. His name appea rs on
the captain's list of passengers as "Hans Jer. Herzels". He signed his o wn name
on the declaration as "hans Jerg hertzel". One of the passengers on boa rd the
"William and Sarah" was the Reformed Reverend, George Michael Weiss, who l ater
became the pastor of the Reformed congregation at Goshenhoppen in Montgome ry

On 23 April 1735 Hans George was granted a warrant for 300 acres of la nd on the
east branch of the Saucon Creek. The property was known as "Partnership ". It
was a mile south of the Lehigh River and on the north side of the road fro m
Hellertown to Easton. The land was officially surveyed by Nicholas Scu ll on 24
December 1737. On 12 November 1747, Hans George Sr., aged 61, conveyed the
southern half of the tract to his son-in-law, Philip Schlauch, and the oth er
half to Nicholas Transue. |
