Horatio G. Shull Dies in 71st Year
Horatio Gates Shull died at 2 o?clock yesterday afternoon at his home, 7 25 Brodhead street. With the death, a life of energy, both in business a nd in Masonic and historical circles came to a close. Mr. Shull was born N ovember 9, 1858, a son of Alexander Sherrard Shull and his wife, Margar et Stocker Shull of Martin?s Creek who died in 1909. Had he lived until N ovember this year he was have been 71 years of age. Mr. Shull married Ja ne Ferris, of Philadelphia, who died in March 1917. His survivors are h is son, Horatio Sharrard Shull of Paxinosa Avenue, Mrs. Helen Neal and Mr s. Frank B. Witherspoon, daughters who lived with their father. A siste r, Mrs. Frank C. Williams of this city, died a year ago.

Mr. Shull attended public schools at Martin?s Creek, entered Lafayette Col lege in the class of 1880 then went to Pennsylvania College, Gettysburg a nd later to a state Normal School, fitting himself as a teacher. He ga ve up this work and entered the grocery business sand for many years, w as a wholesale grocer in Camden, N.J. He lived in Germantown and lat er in Philadelphia. He retired from business in 19078 and moved to East on in 195 where he had since resided. For several years his health wad n ot been of the best, due to a heart affection. However he was full of ener gy, and it was hard for him to curtail his efforts which since his retirem ent and before were largely devoted to historic research.

On Wednesday evening after placing his auto in garage, he was seized wi th weakness, but it was not until sometime later that he acquainted his da ughters with his condition. The attack was due large to the heat and his h eart became weak.

Mr. Shull was a member of Grace Reformed church of various Masonic bodie s. Including Rajah Temple, Nobles of Mystic Shrine, of Reading, and of his torical societies. He was Son of the American Revolution, a member of t he Pennsylvania Historical Society, the Pennsylvania German Society, Perki omen Valley Historical Society, Berks County Historical Society and the No rthampton County Historical and Genealogical Society, holding the offi ce of genealogist in the latter for the past ten years and accomplishi ng a great deal of work, through historical research. He was also a memb er of Girard Craftsmen of Philadelphia.
