John H. Barnet
John H. Barnet, a former driver in the Easton Fire department, died at 9? 25 o?clock this morning at his home, 23 North Thirteenth Street, after a l ingering illness of a complication of ailments. He was seized with heart f ailure on Wednesday, which confined him to his bed and hastened his deat h. He was in the seventieth year of his age. The deceased was a nati ve of Easton and lived here all his life. When the paid fire department w as organized on November 1, 1879, Mr. Barnet was elected to the positi on of driver and No. 2 steam fire engine, and served for 24 consecutive ye ars. Mr. Barnet was a member of the old Washington Fire company, of the v olunteer service, until it was legislated out of duty by the installi ng of the paid department. He was known as one of the best drivers in t he department, and was hardworking and faithful in the performance of h is duties. He is survived by five children P Miss Mary A. Barnet, Jo hn J. Barnet, Mrs. Joseph Howell, Mrs. Hoard Kleinhans and Mrs. Harry C. D rake, off of Easton, and by one brother, George W. Barnet, of Easton. T he deceased was a member of the Star Council, No. 158, Royal Arcanum.
